Diane Kruger thought she had it all. The former model and The Infiltrator actress, 39, told Town & Country that achieving fame early on in her career led to an identity crisis.
"I had become arrogant," the August 2016 cover girl, who started modeling in her teens, told the magazine. "I had been a model, I spoke three languages, I had a career. I felt I had it all figured out. And then I realized that I was living this very privileged life in my own bubble that I created and I [didn't] know anything about what [was] really going on in the world and I didn't ask enough questions."
After realizing that she had let success go straight to her head, Kruger acknowledged that she needed to make a change.
"I made a lot of different choices," she recalled. "I cut people out of my life who I felt were enabling my bubble." One person whom she credits for helping reel her in is her longtime boyfriend, Joshua Jackson.
"Meeting someone like my partner, who has a very different perspective, who likes to travel in a different way and be open to various experiences, was so important,” she told Town & Country of the Dawson’s Creek alum. “I was 30 years old and I was already bored of fancy hotels."
The Sky actress has been dating Jackson, 38, since 2006. During a 2013 interview with Conan O’Brien, Kruger revealed their first date was kind of disastrous.
“He took me to this romantic place. … It was a little intense,” Kruger recalled. “It was overgrown with beautiful flowers, to which I had a huge allergic reaction. Like really, really bad. I was sneezing and coughing and my eyes were watery. … I thought this guy is never going to call me again or talk to me. But he sent flowers the next day — with a box of Kleenex.”
